Welcome to the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum's Lost Nordic Ski Area project! This was started as an online component of our 2013-2014 exhibit Kick and Glide: Vermont's Nordic Skiing Legacy. The Lost Nordic Ski Area project provides histories for commercial Nordic ski areas around the state that are considered "lost" for a number of reasons--either because they are out of business entirely, they were absorbed by another area and no longer operate under their original name, or because they are part of a larger commercial venture that is still operational but no longer offers cross country trails.
Some of the histories provided are more extensive than others and this is in no way intended to be a finished project. In fact, we hope this is just the start. Because commercial ski touring centers got their start in 1968 with the Trapp Family Lodge right here in Stowe, and because ski touring in Vermont is still a very current thing, we hope that people who have participated in different aspect of Vermont's Nordic skiing culture--as skiers, operators, employees, or observers--can share their stories, information, and photographs with us so that we may share them with others and help celebrate the legacy of Nordic skiing in Vermont.
