Box 104, Northfield, Vt. 05663.  802-485-8970.  Just off the Northfield Exit of I-89.  Rental equiptment may be obtained from Peter Glenn Shops at the Paine Mountain alpine area.  There are waxing and warming areas at the center.  Food is available at the base lodge and drinks are available at the center.  There are numerous motels in the vacinity.  Lessons are offered for skiers of all levels. Private lessons are available.  there are group discounts.  There are approx. seven miles of trails.  No trail fee is charged, but maps are sold for $1 in lieu of a trail fee.  The center is only open on weekends and holiday weeks." -undated

History

Paine Mountain Touring Center offered seven miles of trails on Paine Mountain in Northfield.  It was only listed in one undated directory (see listing above), but it also appeared, along with town name and phone number, in a 1979 guidebook entitled The New American Guide to Athletics, Sports & Recreation by Craig and Peter Norback.  These two listings are the only available information regarding a touring center a Paine Mountain.  

Norwich Universirty ran an alpine area at Paine Mountain from 1939-1993.  Both the Norwich University ski area and the Paine Mountain Touring Center are no longer in operation and no commericial ski operations exist on Paine Mountain today.
