History

Mount Snow was first opened as an alpine area back in 1954.  Mount Snow Ski Touring Center was listed in directories between 1972 and 1978.  During that time Mount Snow was undergoing a series of mergers and suffering from a snow drought, the oil crisis, and financial problems--amoung other things--causing them to file for bankruptcy in 1975, according to the history provided on the resort's website.  By 1977, Mount Snow was purchased by the owner of Killington.

The ski touring center at Mount Snow operated over 50 miles of groomed trails out of the country club building near the base of the alpine area.  Mount Snow Ski Touring Center hosted a cross-country golf tournament at the course--see 1976 Ski article above which reads: "Mount Snow is also working ahead, firming up pland for its second annual cross-country open golf tournament scheduled for late February.  Rules for the winter golf outing are simple: participants must wear skis at all times (cross-country skis are recommended), use the golf balls provided, any type of regulation clun and play on prescribed course at Mount Snow's ski touring center.  Well, maybe not so simple.  But fun."

Today, Mount Snow still operates as an alpine area and golf course.  Ski  touring is offered at nearby Timber Creek, which was first listed in cross country directories in 1987.
