History

Northland Ski Touring Center offered ski touring in North Hero, Vt. in the Champlain Islands.  It appeared in ski touring directories between 1977 and 1981 offering lodging, ski shop, repairs, rentals, and between 6 and 12 miles of groomed cross country trails depending on the year.

Northland Ski Touring Center operated out of Charlie's Northland Lodge, owned and operated by Charles and Dorice Clark.  It is unclear exactly when Charlie's Northland Lodge got its start--a 2002 article in the Burlington Free Press said the Clarks had owned Northland for 50 years putting the date at 1952; Charlie Clark's obituary said he retired from teaching in 1976 and then bought the lodge; and Dorice Clark's Linked-in page says she has been owner of Northland since 1965.

In addition to the few years of commercial cross country skiing in the late 1970s and early 1980s, Charlie's Northland Lodge also offers boating, kayaking, hiking, and the mainstay of their business, fishing.  Charles passed away in 2010, but Dorice Clark still operates Charlie's Northland Lodge, which runs year round.
