Henry finished his training at Camp Hale but never went to Europe; he was assigned to the infantry replacement program in Louisiana. When his age was discovered, he volunteered for the American Red Cross as a Field Director and went to Guam and the South Pacific."

|
He enlisted in 1942 at the age of 42 because he wanted to be in the 10th.

After coming to check out Stowe, he ended up purchasing a lodge near Mad River Glen, named "the Perkins." He managed food service at Sugarbush for 25 years.
