Special Showing of Vintage Ski Film "Rivals" will be Shown June 14th at Annual Meeting
Members and non-members are invited to join us for our Annual Meeting on Thursday June 14th at 5pm, and for the showing of the film "Rivals." The event is kid-friendly. Refreshments, including a birthday cake celebrating our 30th year, will be served.
After a brief business meeting we'll be showing Joe Jay Jalbert's short film "Rivals" documenting the 1983 FIS World Cup Downhill season. That season featured many familiar names in downhill including Franz Klammer, Peter Mueller, Ken Read, and Marc Girardelli. The downhill World Cup title wasn't decided until the last race of the season held at Lake Louise in Canada.
American Joe Jay Jalbert is an accomplished skier who started making ski films in the 1960s. Long before the invention of GoPros, Jalbert experimented with filming from the skier's viewpoint. Jalbert was the skier-double for Robert Redford in the film "Downhill Racer" and filmed many of the skiing scenes. Jalbert was inducted into the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Hall of Fame in 2014
